A guide to getting power for a new factory in Du Long Industrial Park
For a new factory, power is often what decides the first day of production. Even with all machines installed, a plant cannot start trial runs until its substation is energised. This guide summarises what companies need to do to get power smoothly in Du Long Industrial Park.
1. Talk to the power provider as early as possible
The best time to contact Du Long Power is as soon as you have the factory site and a preliminary equipment list, before the factory design is finalised. You can then:
- Fix a sensible substation location on the site plan.
- Choose the right substation capacity, avoiding over- or under-investment.
- Schedule the electrical works in parallel with factory construction.
2. Five steps to get power
- Submit a power supply request with documents according to the checklist.
- Site survey and connection agreement: agree on the connection point, voltage level, capacity and technical solution.
- Design and construction of electrical works: done by the company itself, or turnkey by Du Long Power (substation and lines).
- Acceptance and power purchase agreement: inspection of works and equipment test results.
- Remote-reading meter installation and energisation.
The power supply timeline is agreed during the site survey, based on the documents and the progress of the company's electrical works. See details on the Power connection procedure page.
3. Documents to prepare
Legal documents
- Power supply / connection request (standard form)
- Enterprise Registration Certificate; Investment Registration Certificate (for FDI companies)
- Land or factory lease agreement in Du Long Industrial Park
- Power of attorney (if the applicant is not the legal representative)
Technical documents
- List of electrical equipment and expected total load
- Factory master plan with the proposed substation location
- Power usage schedule: energisation date and capacity increase phases
Documents in foreign languages must be accompanied by a Vietnamese translation. The exact list may vary with project capacity; please contact us for the forms that apply to your project.
4. Choosing substation capacity and type
Substation capacity depends on the total equipment load, how much runs at the same time, and expansion plans. Common types:
| Type | Typical capacity |
|---|---|
| Pole-mounted | Up to 630 kVA |
| Compact (packaged) | Up to 1,000 kVA |
| Kiosk, ground-mounted | 250 – 2,500 kVA |
| Indoor | As designed |
If you plan to expand, consider the capacity upgrade path in advance (space for an extra transformer, cable sizing, etc.) so you do not have to start over later. Du Long Power engineers provide free advice once you send your equipment list.
5. Tips to avoid delays
- Don't leave power until last: electrical works need time for transformer procurement, construction and testing.
- Prepare all equipment test reports before the acceptance date.
- Think about power quality: plants with many motors should install capacitor banks to keep the power factor at 0.9 or above and avoid reactive power charges.
- Consider rooftop solar when designing the roof, so the roof structure is suitable and future energy costs are lower.
- Plan substation operation: if you have no dedicated electrician yet, you can use our 24/7 operation and maintenance service.
